Drive sounds a whole lot like Nioh's ki system, wonder if there was some influence there. (Dark Souls' stamina is the basis for Nioh's ki and works basically the same way for the player, but Nioh makes ki the critical point of emphasis for combat by increasing the penalty for exhaustion and giving enemies visible ki bars, whereas Dark Souls the penalty basically only operates as a disincentive to blocking too much.)
It does have a lot in common with a stamina meter now that you put it that way, especially because being on the defensive-- blocking as opposed to dodge-rolling in an action game-- slowly drains Drive, which can really put you on the ropes if your Drive is low. I forgot to mention this, but landing EX moves and supers also drains the opponent's meter so you can deliberately shoot to burn them out if their Drive is low enough.
