If you're up for an anime that manages to land a revenge narrative with some introspection and nuance, highly recommend Gankutsuou, a retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo that wisely moves the perspective away from the Count and toward the children of the targets of his revenge. In a retro-futurist France and in an art style that utilizes 17th century wood-print style flat patterns instead of normal textures (to suggest the French Japonisme trend from around when the novel was written?). It's an odd one, probably trying to be too many things at once, totally fascinating.
